8 dead, 12 injured in accident near Akkalkot

Akkalkot, Solapur, Feb 15 (UNI) At least eight persons, including two women and three children, were killed and 12 others injured when the vehicle carrying them turned turtle in Waghdari Village on Hiroli Road, about 20 km from Akkalkot, early today.

Police said the accident took place at 0400 hrs this morning as the driver of the cement-laden truck was drunk and lost control of the steering.

The deceased were migrant labourers coming to Pune from Chandapur Village in Gulgarba, Karnataka, police said.

The deceased were still to be identified while the injured were taken to the Akkalkot Civil Hospital. ''After completion of formalities, the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their kin,'' police added.
