3 cops in ACB net for demanding Rs 3 lakh from teacher

Mumbai, Feb 15 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths have arrested three policemen for allegedly threatening to implicate a primary school teacher in a ''bogus school certificate case'' unless he paid Rs three lakh.

The three -- sub inspector Bajirao Ganpat Nalavade, head constable Yuvraj Uttam Koli, and naik Machindra Shivaji Pawar, arrested yesterday, were produced before special ACB Judge S S Joshi today who remanded them in police custody till February 20.

The three had allegedly picked up Ashok Parmar, the teacher, on January 18 and taken him to the Byculla police station. Parmar was told that the police had received complaints about his involvement in a ''bogus school certificate case'' and that he should pay up Rs three lakh if he wanted to avoid arrest.

The trio allegedly collected Rs 90,000 from Parmar on the same day and asked him to pay up the remaining amount on the next day.

However, Parmar did not heed their demand following which the three went to his residence and demanded the amount. He was asked to pay Rs 2,10,000 by February 2.

Still, Parmar did not listen to their demand.

The three policemen, thereafter, started pestering and threatening Parmar over phone. who finally lodged a complaint with the ACB.

The ACB laid a trap, and the three were arrested last evening.
