24 injured in clash over poll outcome in Punjab
Sangrur, Feb 15 (UNI) As many as 24 people, including women, were injured when two groups clashed over the possible outcome of assembly elections in Malerkotla constituency of the district, police said.
The Congress and Akali Dal supporters in Ravi Das Nagar in Malerkotla town were insisting that their respective party nominees Razia Sultana and Abdul Ghaffar would win the elections and the debate turned violent after heated arguments for some time, police said.
The two groups pelted stones at each another. Police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge to disperse them.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital.
A case would be registered in the connection after the medical reports of the injured were received and their statements recorded, police said.
