Women voters outnumber men in 3 assembly seats of Kapurthala

Phagwara, Feb 14 (UNI) Women voters outnumbered men in three of the four assembly constituencies of Kapurthala district which recorded 76.4 per cent polling yesterday, according to official data compiled today.

This probably could be due to the fact that in three of the four constituencies in the district, the main contestants are women.

These include former SGPC chief and SAD nominee Bibi Jagir Kaur from Bholath, former minister and SAD candidate Dr Upinderjit Kaur from Sultanpur Lodhi and Mrs Rajbans Kaur of the Congress from Kapurthala.

According to the official data, in Bholath out of the 90,348 votes polled, 48,250 were cast by women. In Kapurthala constituency 47,221 women cast their votes as compared to 46,009 men. In Sultanpur Lodhi, 46,297 women exercised their franchise as compared to 45,963 men.

However, in Phagwara assembly segment men voters were slightly higher than the women. According to the official data 52,185 men casted their votes against 50,604 women.
