Two gemstone dealers arrested in gemstone ruby case
Vadodara, Feb 14 (UNI) The city police claimed to have cracked the mysterious star ruby case by arresting two Gujarat-based gemstone dealers for allegedly giving a Rs 6.30 crore price tag to an ordinary stone in a bid to sell it off in the market.
The unique cheating case that recently led to a triple murder, came to light yesterday after Mumbai's Chunilal Jewellers and Company partner Punkaj Parekh, denied having ever valued the stone at his firm and issued a valuation certificate to the accused duo for the fake star ruby.
Rajkot-based gemstone dealer Samir Jagot, who claims to be the owner of the stone, and Vadodara's Gopal Haryani were arrested last night under section 471 of the IPC on the charges of forgery when Parekh, who was summoned to Vadodara for questioning in connection with the case, dubbed the valuation certificate purportedly issued by his farm to Jagot on January 18, last year, as bogus and forged.
With the arrest of Jagot and Haryani, the number of arrests in connection with the missing ruby and triple murder case has risen to five.
Police said Jagot and Haryani manufactured the fake ruby's valuation certificate through an e-mail and had handed it over to prime accused Jayanti Pateliya and three other victims along with the stone to fetch a good buyer in Rajasthan, well known for gemstone trade.
