Chennai, Feb 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will distribute 25 lakh television sets to the poor in the second phase of the 'free colour TV scheme' to be launched tomorrow.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will launch the scheme by distributing TV sets to the poor at a function in Pammathukulam village in Tiruvallur district, an official release said.

State Ministers would launch the scheme in other districts of Tamil Nadu on the same day.

The 'free colour TV scheme,' one of the main poll promises of the ruling DMK, was launched on September 15 last year coinciding with the birth anniversary of DMK founder C N Annadurai. In the first phase, 30,000 TV sets were distributed to the poor.

The Government had floated a global tender for procurement of TV sets for distribution under the second phase and selected five firms for supply.

The second phase of the scheme would, however, not to be launched in Chennai tomorrow in view of the upcoming re-election to Corporation wards.
