SC asks Delhi HC to tackle monkey menace
New Delhi, Feb 14: The Supreme Court today asked the Delhi High Court to find a suitable place of habitation for 300 monkeys in Delhi after the Madhya Pradesh government refused to accommodate them.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justices D K Jain and V S Sirpurkar issued the directions to the petitioner, Geeta Seshamani, to seek appropriate directions from the Delhi High Court for shifting monkeys who have been creating a ruckus in the national capital.
Bhatti Mines in Delhi was suggested to be the natural habitat for the monkeys.
The Chief Justice sought to know the stand of the Centre on the issue to which Justice Jain jokingly remarked, '' dump these monkeys in South Block.'' The Madhya Pradesh government has refused to take the simians stating that there is no dearth of them in the state and they may be suffering from various diseases.
