MP bypolls: Two sets of nomination papers filed
Bhopal, Feb 14 (UNI) A nomination each was filed today for the byelections to Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior and Sidhi (ST) Lok Sabha constituencies while no candidate filed his papers for the Udaypura assembly seat for the third straight day, official sources said.
Samajwadi Party's Patiraj Singh filed his nomination for Sidhi, which the former MLA contested last time as well. Independent Manoj Sharma filed his papers for Gwalior.
The state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its nominees state Tourism Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia (Gwalior), National Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Kunwar Singh (Sidhi) and Ms Shashiprabha Singh (Udaypura).
The hustings were necessitated in Sidhi and Gwalior as MPs Chandrapratap Singh (BJP) and Ramsewak Singh Gujjar were expelled from Parliament in the cash-for-query scam. Udaypura MLA Rampal Singh, who was the Public Health Engineering Minister, put in his papers after emerging victorious in the Vidisha Lok Sabha bypoll.
February 19 is the last date for filing nomination papers.
Scrutiny will take place the following day and papers may be withdrawn until February 22. Polling will take place on March 8 and counting is scheduled for March 11.
