Kumaraswamy meets PM, seeks time for all-party delegation on Cauvery

New Delhi, Feb 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today inquired Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy about the law and order situation in Karnataka in the wake of the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

During his meeting with Mr Kumaraswamy, who met him at his residence, the PM expressed satisfaction over the situation and was briefed in detail about the arrangements made in the state after the verdict. He was also informed about the situation that prevailed during the 'bandh' called by various political parties and Kannada organisations.

The Chief Minister talking to reporters said he had informed the Prime Minister about the all-party meeting in Bangalore to discuss the impact of the final verdict of the Tribunal on Karnataka and the possibilities of a delegation over the issue. ''I sought his valuable time in the event the leaders decided to meet him'', Mr Swamy said.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who declined to comment on the Cauvery issue, said the state had not received justice at the hands of the Tribunal and the government would react after taking all political parties into confidence.

He also distanced his government from the statement of his father and Janata Dal (Secular) President H D Deve Gowda on the Cauvery Tribunal verdict. ''He has written to PM as a farmer and his views did not represent the state government's stand,'' the Chief Minister said.

Asked about spending an hour-and-a-half at the residence of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said it was a ''courtesy call''.

He said an all-party meeting will be convened before February 22 and a meeting on Karnataka MPs will be held on February 26.
