50,000 job cards issued in Kashmir under NREGS

Srinagar, Feb 14: As many as 50,000 job cards have been issued to execute more than 250 works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in the frontier district of Kupwara, once the hub of militants.

Rs 2.66 crore has been expended up to January in Kupwara, the only district selected under the NREGS in the Kashmir valley.

This was apprised at an officers meeting convened by Director of Rural Development at Handwara today.

The Director, on a three-day tour to the district, was further informed that 50,000 job cards have been issued to the unemployed youth under the scheme.
