Writ seeking president's rule in UP: Notice to UP assembly secretary
Lucknow, Feb 13 (UNI) Hearing a writ petition seeking imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh and holding of assembly poll before March 12, Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today issued notices to the respondents, including the UP Vidhan Sabha secretary.
A division bench comprising Justices Jagdish Bhalla and O N Khandelwal also fixed February 23 for next hearing in the case.
On Friday, the writ was filed by Satish Chandra Shukla through his counsel Harishankar Jain.
The opposite parties have been given a week's time to file counter affidavit.
The petitioner had contended the last assembly poll for the constitution of 14th Vidhan Sabha in UP was held under the Election Commission's February 26, 2002 notification.
The first session of the assembly started on May 14, 2002, the writ had mentioned.
It urged that the assembly poll be conducted before March 12, and till then President's rule be imposed.
