TN Govt should consult allies on important issues: PMK
Villuppuram, Tamil Nadu, Feb 13(UNI) Expressing surprise over the change in the stance of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the Cauvery and Mullaperiyar Dam issue, PMK founder leader S Ramdoss today said while taking a decision on such important issues, the allies should be consulted.
Talking to newspersons at his Thailapuram residence in Thindivanam near here, Dr Ramdoss said Mr Karunanidhi, who earlier stated that the final award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal has advantages, as well as disadvantages to Tamil Nadu, had changed his stance and stated yesterday that the award could be accepted.
He said likewise in the Mullaperiyar issue, the Chief Minister had stated that the issue could be resolved outside the court, which means another round of talks with the Kerala Government. Mr Karunanidhi had already issued a statement ruling out anymore talks with the Kerala Government, he added.
Wondering what caused the change in the stand, Dr Ramdoss said the views of DMK was different from the Tamil Nadu Government and hence when decisions on such issues were taken, the allies should be consulted.
He said the people of Tamil Nadu should know the details of the final award of the Tribunal and added that the copy of the award should have been given at least to the leaders of the recognised political parties here.
In Karnataka, copies were supplied to the parliament members, legislators and agricultural leaders, he said. While India and Pakistan had accepted the verdict of the world bank experts in the Baglihar Dam issue, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, were functioning on their own within the country, he alleged.
There is no use in expressing our brotherly affection, he said adding that we should fight either politically or legally to get our rights. Dr Ramdoss also urged the Tamil Nadu Government to regulate the Special Economic Zones(SEZ).
He alleged that an individual residing at the Rajbhavan in Chennai, was involved in several irregularities, which does not augur well for the government. He had written a letter to Mr Karunanidhi in this regard, he added.
Criticising Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Dr Ramdoss said the former was providing ten-kg rice at free of cost every month from the Lt Governor to the poorest man in the Union Territory and it will not be surprising, if he provides cinema tickets to the people at free of cost in the near future.
