Saamna questions Valentine's Day celebrations
Mumbai, Feb 13: Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna has questioned the dispay of 'love' on Valentine's Day that falls on February 14.
The Sena organ has criticised the way of celebrating the day by giving gifts in the name of Father Valentine, who was jailed and killed by the king of Rome for expressing love, 400 years ago.
Does the love of young people vanish on other days except February 14, questioned the editorial of 'Saamna' today and reasoned that the display of love on a particular day would only benefit foreign companies more.
Shiv Sena, known for opposing the 'show' of 'love' on a particular day, maintained its stand through its editorial.
The editorial further said love-lorn people commit suicide but nobody salutes their death but remembers the name of 'Valentine' for love.
Recalling the example of Professor Mukutnath of Patna who faced several ordeals including blackening of his face by several 'illiterate' people and later the removal from job for having a love affair with his student, the editorial questioned how many Valentine disciples had gone to help him.
The editorial also cited examples of love of Srikrishna-Radha, Bajirao-Mastani and even Abhishek-Aishwarya.
''Abhishek's culture is definitely valentine culture '', the editorial observed adding that the popularity of their love is far more than that of Valentine.
Love could be between teacher and student, parents, sisters-brothers and for the motherland; it said and concluded with the observation, ''will the Valentine tell the minority community in this country to love their motherland.''
