NEC to set up seperate council for education in NE

Aizawl, Feb 13: In order to strengthen educational infrastructure in NE states, the North Eastern Council(NEC) has constituted North Eastern Regional Educational Council(NEREC) with academicians, including Vice-Chancellors of NE universities.

Official sources here today said apart from infrastructure of education system, it would also use Information Technology in the schools in the region.

The Council would give priority, especially to Science and Mathematics, while orientiation training would be imparted to all the teachers at primary level.

''NEREC has been assigned to help the schools in translating Science and Maths books in local languages,'' sources said.

In the field of IT education, NEREC, with the help of ERNET India would set up point to point high speed links in ten universities of the region, which helps students and faculty to acccess internet, hosting web servers, access E-Journals and distance learning as well as using digital library.

Special focus would be on skill development and training of youth in diverse activities by opening well equipped Industrial Training Institues and vocational training centres, sources added.
