Hmar insurgents recruiting women cadres

Aizawl, Feb 13 (UNI) Mizoram based insurgent outfit Hmar Peoples' Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) has started recruiting women cadres to spread its activities in South Asom and Manipur, Intelligence sources said here today.

According to sources, North Cachar (NC) Hills district police had launched massive manhaunt aganist Hmar women society, operational in South Asom, for their alleged connection with the insurgent group.

'' Interrogation of a hardcore HPC-D militant and arrest of an Asom forest department employee recenlty in NC Hills had revealed that the Hmar woman were providing shelter to the militants,''sources added.

The HPC-D was maintaining a low profile since the ethnic clashes that occurred between the Dimasa and Hmar communities in 2003 at NC Hills and Cachar districts.

Sources added that HPC-D had been sneaking into the state with the help of the women Hmar cadres for the past few months and had started extortion and abduction in Southern parts of Asom.
