Hearing on Nalini's petition posted to Feb 16

Chennai, Feb 13 (UNI) Madras High Court today posted to February 16, hearing on the petition filed by Nalini, a life convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, seeking a direction to the Union Government to permit her daughter to join with her.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice K Chandru adjourned the hearing to February 16, for the Union Government to file its counter.

When the case came up for hearing, Assistant Solicitor General of India P Wilson, appearing for Union Government, submitted that Mehra, daughter of Nalini, had acquired Sri Lankan citizenship.

Hence under the Indian Citizenship Act, she cannot have dual citizenship and she was not entitled to get Indian citizenship as per section nine of the Indian Citizenship Act.
