Federation to organise bandh on March 15

Puducherry, Feb 13 (UNI) The Puducherry District Panchayat Presidents Coordination of Federation will organise a bandh here on March 15 to press for the devolution of powers to the elected local body representatives.

Federation convener Nagamuthu and Deputy convener Jaganathan, addressing a press conference here today, said at an emergency meeting of the federation yesterday, a decision was taken to organise a four-phase agitation to press for the devolution of powers.

As part of the stir, the federation members would observe a fast at the samadhi of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur on February 22 and seek alms at the Rajiv Gandhi square here with the copies of the government order enlisting their functions on February 26 and burn the copies.

The members would go to New Delhi on February 28 and meet the President, Prime Minister, Home Minister, Leader of the Opposition and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to press their demands. In the last phase, a bandh would be organised, they added.
