Congress cries foul over cut in Gujarat Assembly session time
Ahmedabad, Feb 13 (UNI) When the Congress party is keen to raise issues concerning the common man in the forthcoming budget session in the Gujarat Assembly, the BJP government in the state led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi has cut the time drastically, Balvantsinh C Rajput today alleged.
Addressing mediapersons here today, Mr Rajput said usually the budget session lasts 45 days. In contrast, this time the session, which commenced from February 22, the government has seen to it that the session lasts only 23 days and in that short duration time has been further cut as there would be two sittings each day for four days.
Most of the time would be taken up by ministers making lengthy speeches further reducing the time for asking questions, he said.
The Congress wishes to raise several questions over issues like the plight of 26 lakh poor families, 75 lakh Adivasis, 32 lakh Dalits, 50 per cent other backward classes, 50 lakh farmers and students, 34 per cent labourers and minorities and 13 lakh unemployed in the State,he said.
''The State BJP government's anti-Opposition mindset is a dampner to economic and social progress,'' Mr Rajput said.
The relaxation in liquor policy for SEZs and foreign investors is nothing but favouring the rich industrialists. There is also the mindless execution and policy changes in education which is harming the career of students. He also dwelt on the deterioration in law and order in the State.
''We would raise questions in the Assembly related to all these issues,'' Mr Rajput said.
He also pointed out the insufficient power being given to farmers and the failure of the State to provide reasonable support price for their produce.
Mr Modi claims that Gujarat is in the forefront in agriculture while the ground reality is that the State ranks fifth in agriculture output, Mr Rajput added.
