Congress campaign against administration in Andaman and Nicobar
Port Blair, Feb 13 (UNI) The Congress unit of Andaman and Nicobar islands is planning to organise a mass campaign against the local administration for not filling up various posts in government departments.
''Thousands of youths in the Islands are without jobs as the Administration is not recruiting people for various reasons,'' Manoranjan Bhakta, the lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Island, told UNI today.
The Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) has called a meeting today to formulate the future strategy for the campaign.
''We will be giving them a weeks notice and if the Administration does not initiate any steps for recruitment in various vacant posts, we will launch massive campaign in the islands,'' Bhakta said.
At present, hundreds of posts for Teachers, Junior Engineers and Lower Grade Clerks are vacant but due to some unknown reason, these posts are held up.
Due to lack of any major industry in this remote archipelago, around 80 per cent of the people are in government job.
Some experts believe that this massive campaign by local Congress unit is a pressure tactic on the newly appointed Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
