Committees to be formed as per numerical strength of parties

Mumbai, Feb 13 (UNI) In order to curb electoral malpractices, Maharashtra Cabinet today decided that committees in Municipal Corporations would be constituted as per the numerical strength of political parties in the civic body.

The members of such committees will be decided after consultations with leaders of recognised and registered parties as well as the comparative numerical strength of other groups, an official release issued here today said.

Similarly, Mayors will be elected through head count.

The Cabinet extended till June 20, the period to decide taxes for 2007-08 in the municipal corporations where elections were held recently.
