Black marketing of Army diesel in JK thriving
Srinagar, Feb 13: Jammu and Kashmir police have seized about 10,000 litres of kerosene and high-speed diesel which was allegedly being sold on the black market in north Kashmir by some Army personnel.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara, Haseeb Mughal said a special police team seized 2000 litres of high-speed diesel in 12 barrels at Marathgam.
He said the diesel was being illegally supplied to one Farooq Ahmed Kaboo for black-marketing by some Army personnel and was being sold at exorbitant rates to transporters.
The SP said a case has been registered under the Essential Commodities Act in this regard.
The SP said acting on a tip-off that kerosene oil of the Army and other security agencies was being sold on the black market, a police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) of police station Handwara Syed Fayaz Ahmad, intercepted a truck at Kulangam and recovered the kerosene oil and diesel.
Four people identified as Farooq Ahmed Ganai, Reyaz Ahmed Ganie, Mohammed Shafi Magray and Noor Mohammed have been arrested in this connection, he added.
