BCCL to produce 30 million tonnes coal this fiscal:CMD

Bokaro, Feb 13 (UNI) Bharat Cooking Coal Limited (BCCL) has set up a target to produce 30 million tonnes of coal this fiscal, Chairman cum Managing Director A K Pal said.

Talking to reporters here last evening Mr Pal said BCCL had to depend on private companies for production following lack of resources and old equipments.

He said the expansion of collieries would be done after achieving the proposed target.

Replying to a query Mr Pal said presently the company was running for a loss of Rs 5000 crore and needed Rs 3000 crore to revive its sick plants.

Reffering to BCCL's block-2 at the Baghmara area in Dhanbad, Mr Pal said the area had huge amount of coal but production would be initiated only after sorting out the problems of the people there.

He further said the coal theft also amounted to the loss of the company.

Speaking about action plan for Jharia people, Mr Pal said about 52000 people would be rehabilitated in the area.
