UPA chairperson Sonia to lay foundation stone for rail coach factory

New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) UPA Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi will lay the foundation stone for a rail coach factory in the Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.

Union Minister Lalu Prasad will preside over the function, a Northern Railway release said.

The coach factory, to be set up to cater to the requirements of additional rolling stock for running new/additional trains, will be the third coach factory by the Indian Railways.

Indian Railways had commenced indigenous manufacturing of rail coaches by establishing rail coach factories at Perambur, Chennai in 1955 and at Kapurthala in 1986.

The area of this project is expected to be 476 hectares.

This coach factory will have the capacity to manufacture 1000 coaches per annum once completed. These coaches will be state-of-the-art coaches with pleasing interiors, longer life span and higher comfort level.
