Tension in Maddur Town following burning of a flag
Mandya, Karnataka, Feb 12: Police resorted to lathi charge when a group of people tried to take out a procession against burning of a flag hoisted atop of an organisation in Maddur, about 20 km from here, today.
Deputy Director General of Police Shankar Bidri told UNI that trouble started when the flag hoisted during 'Samajotsav' yesterday, was found burnt. Nearly 1000 people, led by former legislator M S Siddaraju threatened to take out a procession and indulged in verbal duel with police who intervened. As the situation was going behind control police resorted to lathi charge to disburse the group.
Meanwhile, another flag belonging to the other group was also found burnt.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were clamped and 25 people were taken into custody. The flag was hoisted again and the situation is now under control, Mr Bidri added.
