Moily report should not turn into an exercise to save UPA: BJP
New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) The BJP today said the Administrative Reforms Commission report on governance headed by former Karnataka Chief Minister M Veerappa Moily recommending amendment of the Constitution to bring political stability should not become a UPA bachao exercise.
Commenting on the report that covers on 50 important issues concerning governance and stability of the government, BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said Mr Moily had suggested amending the Constitution to reign in political parties of the ruling alliance to be struck to remain together for the full term of the Lok Sabha by recommending that all those parties which go to the polls with implicit assurance before elections or implicit understanding after elections should stay within the alliance only. In the present context, it looks that Mr Moily wants the support of the parties like Telangana Rashtra Samiti,Janata Dal (Secular) and some bickering allies within the UPA to stay and support the ruling alliance against their conscience.
He said while the BJP fully agreed on the need to have political stability for ensuring good governance, it can't accept the concept suggested by Mr Moily. The BJP, he said has always been arguing for the Opposition to bring a Confidence Vote in the House before it came up with No-Confidence motion to bring in stability.
He said there was one better provision in Maharashtra which permits the Independent corporators to decide within 15 days of their getting elected as to which side of the alliance they should support for the rest of their present term. This could be given a trial, he remarked.
The party has not gone through Moily report in detail and the party would issue a structured response to the recommendations in the next few days, he added.
