New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) Refusing to close a school opened by the Indian Air Force, the Delhi High Court today directed the government to sanction a one-time grant of Rs 1.88 crore in the public interest.

A Division Bench of Justices Swatanter Kumar and H R Malhotra said if the school did not rejuvenate by standing on its own, the Directorate of Education, Delhi Government or any other such authority would take over the management of the school after fifth year.

Gyan Jyoti Air Force School, established by the Air Force authorities in the Cantonment area, had filed a petition seeking grant from the government to run the school, which had been facing a financial crunch for the past couple of years.

The School said despite imparting quality education at a competitive fee structure, many students were not coming forward to join the school, submitted the Advocate appearing for the school.

The school authorities had submitted a project for a grant of Rs 1,88,4000 spreading over five years.

While making it clear that the grant was a one-time grant without any precedent, the Court directed the Directorate of Education to nominate an official in the managing committee as an observer to ensure that the money was spent in right direction and the school made a good progress.
