Delhi's road infrastructure to change before Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the Delhi government will construct more flyovers and underpasses to decongest traffic in the national capital well before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Speaking after inaugurating the Moolchand Underpass constructed by Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation Ltd, she said that during the last eight years as many as 37 flyovers had been completed compared to just ten in 1990s.

''16 more flyovers/Road Over Bridges are under construction while 20 flyovers/ROB were at the planning stage. 21 subways have been completed. Eight more Foot Over Bridges with escalators are under construction and seven FOBs are under planning stage.'' For the first time in Delhi two tunnel corridors had been planned to facilitate the movement of traffic from the Commonwealth Games Village in East Delhi to Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium and from the Games Village to Rajiv Chowk (Connaught Place).

Education and Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh, area MLA Sushil Choudhary and DTTDC CMD Sanat Kaul were also present on the occasion.

The minister said that the DTTDC was engaged in development of transport infrastructure in the city for over 15 years.

The Delhi Tourism had already constructed nine flyovers, six subways and three underpasses until now.

Special attention had been given for incorporating the future plans of high capacity bus corridor and Delhi Metro projects.

Estimated cost of the project was Rs 3,868 lakh.
