Cong moves EC over misuse of official machinery by SP

Lucknow, Feb 12 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Congress today moved the Election Commission (EC) alleging criminalisation of politics by the ruling Samajwadi Party.

In a memorandum to the EC today, Congress claimed that the ruling party has converted the bureaucracy into it party functionaries.

''Several bureaucrats, including the Chief Secretary himself are working as party functionaries,'' the memorandum claimed.

Congress claimed that during the local bodies elections held from time to time, the ruling party had used muscle power and the state machinery to garner votes and seats for its candidates. ''They shifted polling booths to suit their requirements so that their candidates could win despite poor mass base,'' it added.
