Itanagar, Feb 12 (UNI) Chief Minister Gegong Apang will inuagurate the newly established headquarters of Anjaw district Hawai on February 14.

The programme coincides with Tamla-Du, the most famous agricultural festival of local inhabitants, Mishmis.

Despite being one of the oldest administrative centres, set up in the early 50s, at an altitude of 1,258 metres, Hawai remained inaccessible till a few years ago. It came under the spotlight after the state government crafted the 16th district in December 2003 bifurcating Lohit district.

Covering Hawai, Hayuliang, Kibithoo, Wallong, Chaglagam, Goiliang, Manchal circles and Tiding area villages, Anjaw has a total population of 18,441 as per 2001 census. Hawai, located on the left bank of Lohit River, is eight km from Changwinty bridge point from the National Highway 52.

Indian and Chinese Armies opened a border post meeting point in November last year at Kibithoo, the third along the MacMohan line, just before the visit of the Chinese President to India. Kibithoo has drawn the attention of New Delhi towards its potential of becoming a window to South East Asian nations as it has direct road link with Tinsukia in Assam, following the completion of Parsuram Bridge across Lohit to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next week.

The Chief Minister will launch the urban road network for improving the connectivity and inaugurate the 2 x 250 kw Matinallah mini hydropower project at Changwinty to improve the power scenario of the remote border district.

The power project would be inaugurated with the help of a remote control from Hawai, 8 km off the spot, informed deputy commissioner P S Lokhande.

Moreover, Mr Apang will also lay the foundation stones of offices of Anjaw deputy commissioner, executive engineer of public health engineering and water supply and executive engineer of water resources development.

State Finance Minister Kalikho Pul, who is the local representative informed that traditional houses have been built in natural surroundings to accommodate the guests and make them feel the nature.

The traditional troupes would showcase the rich cultural heritage of the local denizens, while local cuisines would be the special attraction to make the event memorable for the visitors, he added.
