AP Govt to turn state into 'Knowledge Centre'
Hyderabad, Feb 12 (UNI) Close on the heels of the Andhra Pradesh Government's decision to set up three new universities in the three regions of the State, two more Universities would be set up, Governor Rameshwar Thakur announced today.
Making a mention of three new universities -- Aadi Kavi Nanayya University (Rajahmundry), Telangana University (Nizamabad) and Yogi Vemana University at Kadapa, which became operational recently, he said, ''One more university in Nalgonda/Medak is proposed.
Recognising the potential of horticulture, the Goverment has decided to set up a separate Horticulture University at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district.'' ''My Government proposes to start a 21st Century Gurukula Vidyalayas and Language Labs in all degree colleges to enhance the communication skills of the people in rural areas,'' he said, adding the Centre's decision to sanction an Indian Institute of Technology to the state would go a long way in building scientific infrastructure in the state.
An extension centre of the Dehradun-based Petroleum University was being set up at Anaparthy in East Godavary district, he said.
The Government had decided to set up Government Medical Colleges at Srikakulam, Adilabad and Prakasam districts and JNTU Engineering colleges in Vizianagaram and Karimnagar districts, he recalled.
