AP Govt plans round-the-clock power, water to Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Feb 12 (UNI) People of Hyderabad will be provided water and power round-the-clock as per a perspecive plan, Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur said today.
The plan was ready to augment 10 tmc ft Godavari water to the capital, he said in his address to the Assembly on the opening day of the Budget session.
'The ultimate aim of my Government is to increase the supply to 1750 MLD by 2009, thereby achieving an average per capita supply of 100 litre against 80 litre of WHO standards', he said.
He said 90 million gallons per day were being added under the Krishna Drinking Water scheme.
The State Government had formulated a Rs 2024.65 crore project to improve infrastructure facilities in the old city area of Hyderabad in the next three years, he said, adding a similar proposal for development of other parts of the city was being prepared.
The Governemnt was taking up an ambitious Rs 310 crore Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment areas improvement project to increase the eco-tourism potential of the city, he said.
Thanking the Centre for sanctioning 35 urban renewal projects costing Rs 1878.30 crore during 2006-07, he told the members that project proposals under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Scheme and Urban Development Scheme for small and medium towns, pending with the Centre, were likely to be cleared shortly.
To solve the traffic problem, a Mass Rapid Transit System would be taken up in Greater Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 7986 crore, covering 60 km in the first phase, he added.
