10 lakh children covered under pulse polio in JK

Srinagar, Feb 12: The authorities in the Kashmir valley have decided to extend the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme (PPIP) for two more days in the Kashmir division, where ten lakh children were administered polio drops yesterday.

Official sources said the step was taken to cover children who could not be administered the polio drops because of the general strike and cold.

They said the PPIP will continue for two more days and those parents who had not administered polio drops to their children yesterday, could take advantage of the two-day extension.

Meanwhile, braving the chill, about ten lakh children were given polio drops in six districts of the valley, besides Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh region in 4771 centers which were set up by the authorities.
