VIA opens office in Bangalore; targets 6 more metros

New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) Taiwan-based chip maker VIA Technologies has set up its new regional office in Bangalore and plans to build a presence in six major metros within the next six months.

''Being the fastest growing economy after China and with its world class software industry, India is emerging as a leading power in the global IT industry,'' VIA Technologies Vice President (Corporate Marketing) Richard Brown said.

Through the new regional office, the company plans to strengthen ties with leading Indian and MNC thin client makers such as HCL, VXL, HP, Neoware, Wyse, and Giga-Byte, he said.

Mr Brown said it would help in tapping other markets such as South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.

VIA is one of the major suppliers of x86 CPUs for the rapidly growing Thin Client (centrally managed computers) market.

''Thin Clients represent an exciting opportunity for VIA in India, and we expect the market to reach 1.25 million units by the end of 2010,'' said Sanjay Peer, Director, Channel Sales, India and SAARC.

The company will also target on increasing PC penetration, developing business in other emerging verticals such as set top boxes, broadband access and digital entertainment devices, medical diagnostic equipments, point of sales, and video surveillance solutions, it said in a statement.
