'Tazias' awaiting burial finally put to rest in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, Feb 11 (UNI) Amid curfew relaxation of 12 hrs, the 'tazias' awaiting burial after the communal flareup in this eastern district of Uttar Pradesh, were finally put to rest today.

According to sources, during the curfew relaxation from 0800 hrs to 2000 hrs, 'tazias' were peacefully buried in Karbala and other places.

The decision to bury 'tazias' was taken at a meeting yesterday between the district administration and religious saints.

''The situation in the riot-hit Gorakhpur town, where tension ensued at a 'barat' procession on the Republic Day, has now returned to normal. All educational institutes have been opened,'' District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Goyal told UNI.

Tension had shot up in the city, following a clash between two groups of a particular community at a marriage procession on January 26.

Later, curfew was imposed in four police station areas. Besides, section 144 (prohibitory orders) and shoot at sight orders were issued against the violators.
