SAD seeks EC action against Rana Gurjit Singh and his wife

Jalandhar, Feb 11 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) today urged the Election Commission to take stern action against Congress MP Rana Gurjit Singh for violating the model code of conduct by releasing to the media an ''engineered'' CD with derogatory comments on SAD leadership without the commission's approval.

The SAD Secretary Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that this CD was not approved by the Election Commission and by releasing it to the press, Mr Rana has violated the model code of conduct.

The party also demanded that this CD should be banned immediately and action taken against Rana Gurjit Singh's wife, Mrs Rajbans Kaur who is contesting the assembly election from Kapurthala on Congress ticket.

The CD released by the Congress MP at a press conference here, shows a former minister in previous SAD-BJP government levelling charges against SAD President Prakash Singh Badal's family.

Meanwhile, in a separate complaint, the SAD also demanded strict action against two assistant excise and taxation commissioners of Mohali, for holding a meeting of subordinate staff of the department on February 10 and allegedly pressurising them to vote and support the Congress candidate from Kharar, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, Mr Cheema said in a press release.
