Protests mount against Cauvery Tribunal verdict
Bangalore, Feb 11 (UNI) Protests against the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) continued for the seventh day in Karnataka today.
Life in the State is expected to come to a standstill tomorrow during the dusk to dawn bandh called by various organisations against the CWDT's February 5 verdict.
Road and rail traffic continued to be affected between Bangalore and Mysore today as agitators blocked the State HighWay in Cauvery Basin Districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar.
Trains were stopped at many places between Bangalore-Mysore. In Mandya, the Tamil colony also joined the agitation.
KSRTC authorities were trying to ply the Bangalore-Mysore bus services via Malavalli and Kanakapura but this was also affected due to the widespread agitation.
Members of the Cauvery Hitharakshna Horata Samithi led by their President G Made Gowda continued their relay hunger strike at the Silver Jubilee Park in Mandya for the second day.
In Mysore, auto drivers staged a dharna in front of the main bus stand in which Member of Parliament C H Vidyashankar also participated.
Speaking to newspersons, Mr Gowda said he would actively participate in the Cauvery agitation and would take the MPs delegations to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stall the otification of the final verdict.
In Chamarajanagara' various organisations continued their protest through road blocks, processions and burning effigies of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. Chamarajanagara MP Shivanna also participated in the agitation.
Police said no untoward incident was reported.
