Protest against Tribunal award continues; traffic affected
Mysore, Feb 11 (UNI) The protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal continued for the sixth day today in Mandya and Mysore districts, affecting both rail and vehicular traffic.
Farmers, agitators and Tamil colony people in Mandya detained trains at Mandya and at various stations between Mysore and Bangalore.
Farmers continued to block Express Highway between Bangalore and Mysore by staging dharnas and cooking on the roads at Hosabodanur, Hanakere and other places.
Despite the efforts of the KSRTC to ply buses to Bangalore via Malavalli and Kanakapura, the traffic was affected.
Meanwhile, The Cauvery Hitharakshna Horata Samithi, led by its President G Made Gowda, continued relay hunger strike at Silver Jubilee Park in Mandya for the second day.
In Mysore, the auto drivers staged a dharna in front of the main bus stand. C H Vidyashankar MP, who participated in the dharna told reporters that he would actively participate in the agitations and would lead an MPs delegation to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stall the notification of the verdict.
In Maddur, an mock-court judgment was organised by the agitators dressing like judges, on the main road.
In Chamarajanagara various organisations continued protests by staging road blockades, processions and burning the effigy of the Tribunal.
However, no untoward incidents were reported in these districts, police said.
