Pota court grants 10-day remand for 'Haji'

Ahmedabad, Feb 11 (UNI) Jamil Khan alias Haji, associated with the Dawood Ibrahim gang, who is suspected to have played a key role in the murder of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya, was today remanded to ten-day police custody by a POTA court.

Haji, brought to the city yesterday on a transfer warrant from Mumbai, was produced in the court by the Ahmedabad crime branch.

they had sought 15 days remand but the Pota Court granted only 10 days custody till February 20.

The gangster was arrested for his role in sending youths to Bangladesh for terror-training after the 2002 Gujarat riots. Mumbai police had arrested Haji under the stringent MCOCA soon after he was deported from Dubai, a month back.

Earlier, on a similar transfer warrant Arif Abu Bakar Sheikh, another Dawood gangster, was brought here. He along with Haji and eight other gangsters were detained by Mumbai police last November after being deported from Dubai.

Sheikh is said to have revealed Haji's name to the Ahmedabad crime branch. He is still under the custody of the crime branch.
