Police arrests youth for eloping with minor girl

Chennai, Feb 11 (UNI) A 19-year-old youth Nandakumar was arrested, for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl and enticing her into marriage at Tirupathi, here yesterday.

Police said the girl Kavitha residing at suburb Padi Pudhu Nagar, was working in a textile exports company at Ambattur Estate here.

As she did not return home since January 4, the parents of the girl gave a complaint to the police.

Meanwhile, an Habeas Corpus petition filed by them at the Madras High Court was heard by the judge, and the court ordered the police to produce Kavitha at the court on or before February 12.

Following this, police made a search for the missing girl and they spotted her standing with a youth at the Ambattur bus terminus.

Both of them were taken by the police for interrogation.

Later the police arrested Nandakumar, for kidnapping the girl and taken her to Tirupathi, where they got married. The couple stayed together at a lodge there for a few days.

Later, they went to Erode and started working at a banian company and rented a house.

But as they ran short of money they returned to Ambattur.

While the youth was arrested, the girl was remanded on bail and sent home, police added.
