Nine killed in rain-related incidents in MP

Bhopal, Feb 11 (UNI) Nine people have been killed and five injured in Madhya Pradesh in rain-related incidents during heavy rains and hailstorm that lashed most parts of the state in the past two days.

Six people were killed in Jabalpur's Katangi area, while one person each died in Indore, Sheopur and Shivpuri when lightning struck them. The Jabalpur administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the deceased's victims.

Khajuraho turned out be the wettest place in the region recording 56 mm rainfall overnight.

According to Met department, showers accompanied with lightning was expected at isolated places in Rewa, Sagar and Jabalpur divisions courtesy an upper air cycer built over Madhya Pradesh.

The rainfall has brought down temperature but minimum temperature was still two-three marks above normal. In the state capital, a low of 15.4 deg C, three notches above normal, was recorded. Most places recorded minimum of 14-15 deg C.

In the past 24 hours, Satna recorded 26.3 mm rainfall, Jabalpur 19, Guna 13, Sheopurkala 15 mm, and Bhopal 13 mm.
