MDMK alleges DMK of disrupting public meeting
Chennai, Feb 11: Tension prevailed for about an hour at the public meeting of the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) at suburb Polichalur here last night, when a section of DMK men allegedly manhandled MDMK propaganda secretary Nanchil Sampath and others, who were on the dais.
According to MDMK sources, when Mr Sampath, in his address, spoke about the corrupt practices of the Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Minister and local MLA T M Anbarasan, a group of DMK men, led by V Karunanidhi, rushed to the dais. They allegedly demanded to withdraw such remarks and wanted the meeting to be stoped abruptly.
Mr Sampath and others objected to it and heated arguments followed from both sides. It was also alleged that the DMK workers damaged lights and the sound system.
The sources also charged that, with electricity going off, the DMK men went on rampage and broke wind screens of two cars of the MDMK party men and fled the scene.
However, with the restoration of power supply, the meeting resumed after 30 minutes and lasted till 2330 hrs.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko, who is away from the city, was apprised of the matter.
The MDMK had lodged a complaint with the Pallavaram police, the sources added.
