Koradi power plant official booked on charges of rape

Nagpur, Jan 11 (UNI) The police today booked an official of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company's (MAHAGENCO) Koradi Thermal Power Station (KTPS), on charges of raping a woman employed as a contract labourer in 2002, and molesting her when she pleaded with him to employ her again.

According to the complaint lodged by the woman with the police, she was working as a contract labourer in KTPS in 2002.

Arun Birasdar, Welfare Officer at KTPS, raped her and later removed her from the job. She had been pleading with Birasdar to employ her again, the woman said. The woman had gone to Birasdar's house this morning to plead with him again, when he molested her, the complainant said.

After she raised an alarm, people from the area rushed to the house and roughed up Birasdar, the police said. They also blackened his face and took him in a procession to Koradi police station.

Birasdar has been booked under sections 376 (B), 354 and 506 of IPC, and sections 3 (1) (11) and 3 (1) (12) of the Atrocity Act, the police said. He has been taken for a medical examination and has not been placed under arrest yet, the police said.
