TN: DMK women cadres take out rally for 33pc quota
Chennai, Feb 11: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) women's wing took out a rally in Chennai and in 17 other districts of Tamil Nadu, demanding that the Centre should immediately implement 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament.
A statement from the party headquarters here said a large number of women cadres participated in the rally at Chennai, Dindugal, Kancheepuram, Virudhunagar, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Pudukottai, Tiruvallur, Karur, Krishnagiri, Kanniyakumari, Sivagangai, Erode, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Tuticorin, Nilgiri and Ramanathapuram districts.
The cadres also shouted slogans in Tamil ''Mathiah arase mathiah arase, 33 sathavitha idaothukeetai amool paduthu'' (Union Government, implement 33 per cent reservation). The DMK is a key constituent of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.
Former AIADMK member and State Minister R Indira Kumari, who had recently crossed over to the DMK, and the party's Vellore district secretary and MLA R Suganthi flagged off the rally which culminated at Vellore bus stand.
