BJP turns needle of suspicion towards Cong for party worker murder

Dehra Dun, Feb 11 (UNI) The Uttarakhand Unit of Bharatiya Janata Party today accused the Congress of the murder of its senior party worker at Kanda in Bageshwar.

The party has also demanded the intervention of the Election Commission in the case.

''Baffled by the BJP's successful campaigning, and the probable defeat of Congress in the assembly elections, the latter has stooped so low that it has started frightening the voters by murdering a BJP worker,'' party state chief Bhagat Singh Koshyari alleged before mediapersons here.

Mr Koshyari said the Congress has been resorting to tearing down BJP banners and flags in various constituencies. However, he said, the BJP wanted that the election be conducted peacefully and it did not react to their actions.

''But if they continue with all this, the BJP would not tolerate it any longer,'' he asserted, urging the Election Commission for timely intervention so that no ontoward incidents takes place in the future.

He said the party has shot off a letter to both Chief Election Officer and the Director General of Police to arrest the assailants without delay.

BJP senior worker Rajendra Singh Bhauryal's clobbered body was recovered from a field yesterday. He was reportedly out for the election campaign at Rawat Shera Devtoli area on Friday night.

Mr Koshyari further said the Congress was indulging in enticing voters by offering them liquor treats. ''All this should stop immediately as it might have a bearing on social harmony and peace,'' he said.

Meanwhile, the BJP expelled 16 of its party members for six years for indiscipline.

According to State General Secretary (Org.) Naresh Bansal, the members have been expelled for throwing their hat into the ring in assembly election against the official BJP candidates. Citing indiscipline the party has expelled them for six full years after they failed to respond to the party's last appeal to withdraw their candidature from the fray, he said.
