Anthrax, PPR vaccines to be released in 6 months: VC

Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Feb 11 (UNI) Two new vaccines for Anthrax and PPR (Pestes Bes Petits of Rumants) would be released within six months, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Vice-Chancellor N Balaraman said.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of a two-day 'Employment opportunity through livestock farming workshop' at Vellore yesterday, he said the University had been working on the Anthrax vaccine for the past three years.

''The study and research on this vaccine are in the final stages and after evaluation, the vaccine will be released'', Dr Balaraman said.

Stating that the University had received Rs eight crore Central aid for multi-disciplinary study and research on the vaccine, in this fiscal, he said it had also been working on vaccines for Bird Flu and Blue tongue.

Speaking on the occasion, Vellore Institute of Technology Chancellor G Viswanathan urged the scientists to study the wheat production in the country and trace the reason behind the importing of 50 lakh tonnes of wheat despite the changes green revolution had brought in.
