Sinha exhorts scientists to intensify interaction with farmers

Jammu, Feb 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha today exhorted agricultural scientists to intensify the interact more with the farming community for better animal management and optimum agricultural production.

Speaking at a function after inaugurating the state-of-art Veterinary Referral Hospital-cum-Complex, at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Chatta this morning, the Governor said the University has a greater responsibility in this regard as agriculture is a mainstay of the majority of our population.

The Governor said, ''In agriculturer development lays the prosperity of the State and the Nation. I see a bright future for agriculture and allied sectors in the region.'' General Sinha referred to the locational advantage of the university complex in famous Basmati bowl of Ranbirsinghpura, known around the country, and hoped that advanced research will immensely benefit farmers and help in having a better yield.

He also recalled the greatest contribution of Ashoka the Great, founder of Srinagar City, in pioneering veterinary sciences centuries ago and said that many strides have been taken in this regard in the State.

The Governor expressed happiness over the dynamism with which the mega complex has been completed and said he has personal satisfaction of witnessing the seed sown a few years ago blooming like a flower.

He expressed optimism about the emergence of the university into one of the best varsities of the country engaged in imparting training in agricultural sciences.

''Pursuit of excellence should be the motive of all. The university is moving fast towards the path of progress. Such centres of knowledge will go a long way in sustaining the green revolution,'' he maintained.
