Reconsider Justice Bhalla's elevation: Kalam asks government
New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam has asked the Centre to reconsider the elevation of Allahabad High Court Judge, Justice Jagdish Bhalla, whose wife is allegedly involved in a land scam, as Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
In a communication to the Prime Minister's Office, the President has cited as reasons for his move the reservations expressed by noted lawyers and the dissenting note of one of the judges who was on the judges collegium which recommended Justice Bhalla's appointment.
Confirming the development, official sources today said the government was expected to forward the President's views to the collegium of judges.
Besides the President, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had received complaints against the appointment as Justice Bhalla's wife, Renu, was reportedly linked to the land scam in Noida.
