Rainfall affects normal life in UP

Lucknow, Feb 10 (UNI) Rainfall in almost every part of Uttar Pradesh has brought life to a standstill.

The Sun god kept playing hide and seek with people in the state and remained behind the curtains.

''The sudden change in weather is the result of fresh western disturbances, while with more rainfall accompanied by hailstorms expected in the next 24 hours, people of the state should be ready to enter into a spine-chilling week,'' the met office told UNI today.

In the last 24 hours, rainfall was witnessed in Allahabad, Jhansi, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Lucknow, Kanpur and Saharanpur divisions.

Though the mercury level continued to be above normal, people shivered during the day.

Allahabad -- at 13 degrees Celsius -- 3 degrees above normal, was the coldest in Uttar Pradesh.

The state capital recorded 15 degrees Celsius, which was seven degrees above normal.

Rainfall has also affected train schedules. All prominent trains, including the Allahabad bound Ganga Gomti Express, Prayag Raj Express, Shaheed Express, Kisan Express and Duplicate Punjab Mail were running several hrs late also.

The rainfall has also played havoc on the night services of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses.

A report from the city of tents, Prayag, said preparations for the third Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) conference starting tommorow, remains affected due to the persistant rainfall.

People are also posed with several health problems due to the sudden change in weather. Few people were seen on the roads due to the drizzle since morning, a report from Kanpur said.

Meanwhile, the Rain God has showered blessings on farmers as the rain spell will prove to be a blessing for Rabi crops.
