Man injured in police firing
Gulbarga, Feb 10 (UNI) A 23-year-old man was critically injured when police opened fire to disperse two warring groups in Humnabad in Bidar district.
Assistant Superintendent of Police M M Daula told UNI that the trouble started when two persons belonging to a particular community asked a man, who sat in an auto to switch off the tape recorder. When the youth refused, the duo beat him up.
This incident later led to clashes between the two groups. A mob this morning torched two tea stalls located in front of a Darga.
Members of both the groups, belonging to two different communities indulged in stone pelting, forcing police to open fire in the air after lathicharge proved to be futile. However, one bullet, after hitting a concrete wall hit the youth, who was standing near the site.
The man was rushed to Hyderabad for treatment.
More than 25 people, including 10 police personel were injured, in the violence.
Twenty nine people were taken into custody in connection with the violence.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 were clamped in the town.
The situation was stated to be tense but under control, police said.
