Indo-Japanese team of geologists finds active fault in Kutch
Bhuj, Gujarat, Feb 10 (UNI) A joint team of Japanese and Indian geologists has recently found another active fault in the quake prone Kutch region of Gujarat.
The joint team, led by Japanese geologist Dr Morino and Indian Geologist Dr Javed Malik, has found an active fault which is believed to be one 1.5 crore year old.
The study has been jointly conducted by Union Science and Technology Department and Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority.
Dr Morino of Ohio International Corporation, Japan and Dr Malik of IIT Kanpur told mediapersons here today the new active fault is passing under and through Bhuj city. It begins from Tapkeshwar Hills, which is located in south of Bhuj city and moves northwards.
Since the last few weeks, this team of geologists are studying the underground activities in Kutch region with the help of Ground Positioning Radar System.
The team has also found several active faults in the region, some of them pass through Bhuj city. These faults are known as Kutch Main-Line Fault, Vagad Fault, Bunny Fault and Pascham Fault.
The team has said the civic and construction authorities should strictly follow earthquake norms for construction work in Kutch region for the safety and security of citizens, as anytime, any of these active faults could cause quake in the region UNI
